These range from getting used to the feeling of porcelain veneers, inability to eat crunchy or hard foods, veneers overhanging the original tooth, improper fitting for bite, jaw problems caused by incorrect bite alignment, and chipping and cracking of the porcelain due to bite pressures. Particularly harmful are the veneers that are significantly made to be longer than your own teeth. The veneers can also be harming your natural teeth. The porcelain has no "give" and is extremely hard. Your bite can be adversely affected if there is no contact between upper and lower teeth causing jaw pain. The most severe cases need cranial osteopathy and bite correction to reverse. However, once the enamel is shaved back, the permanent damage has been done. Bite issues are much better left corrected by traditional orthodontic treatment. By treating both the upper jaw and lower jaw at the same time, over a period of 12-18 months or longer your dentist can ensure that your bite is in alignment and won't cause problems later in life. In general, the very thin lumineers have well less problems than traditional veneers. Since the traditional porcelain veneer treatment is not reversible, the only way to fix the bite issues is with new veneers that are fitted correctly.
