Natural Foods that Kill -Off
Streptococcus Mutans

What are the natural foods that kill streptococcus Mutans?

Many foods and natural herbs and roots with anti bacterial properties can help kill streptococcus Mutans, the bacteria that causes dental decay.

Since the infection is largely topical, the most effective way to kill off Streptococcus Mutans is using a dental irrigator or by oil pulling - swishing oil through the teeth for 15 minutes or more.

For example, onions have powerful anti-bacterial properties, but not too many people will want to eat raw onions.

The most effective treatment is to mix sea salt and baking soda 50/50 and add a splash of Hydrogen Peroxide. When used in an irrigator, the mixture is very effective at killing off Streptococcus Mutans throughout the mouth.

Oil pulling with coconut oil is another extremely effective treatment for killing off streptococcus mutans. It's important to use cold pressed virgin coconut oil. It may be a little hard to find, but is available at most natural foods stores and on-line. The best oils have very potent anti-bacterial properties. Oil pulling encourages the salivary glands, can help cure mouth ulcers, and keep teeth and gums healthy and clean.

One of the most effective roots is licorice. Wenyuan Shi, Qing-Yi Lu, at the University of California, LA, isolated compounds from licorice that showed strong anti-bacterial activity against Streptococcus Mutans.

A report in the JOURNAL OF AGRICULTURAL AND FOOD CHEMISTRY, reported that cashew oil can work well against Streptococcus Mutans. Cashew nuts contain anacardic acids that kill bacteria. These nuts have antibacterial, antidysenteric, anti microbial and antiseptic properties

Fermented yoghurt has also been well known as an inhibitor of Streptococcus Mutans. A study at Hiroshima University, School of Dentistry, Japan, and at the University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong showed that the lactobaccilli Reuteri strain in fermented yoghurts was effective at combating the dental bacteria.

"The inhibitory zone against S. mutans was observed with yogurt products containing L. reuteri, whilst no inhibition was observed with the products with lactobaccilli other than L. reuteri. The results of clinical trial demonstrated that the eating Yogurt with L. reuteri significantly reduced the oral carriage of mutans streptococci, compared with the placebo Yogurt (Wilcxon test, p<0.01)."
