Lingual Braces - Are they Worth it?

Lingual braces are braces that are placed on the inside of your teeth, and are therefore practically invisible. Lingual braces are just like metal braces, but have special fittings on the inside of your teeth.

The obvious benefit of these lingual braces is the fact that they are virtually invisible during the course of a normal day. Unless you are looking inside someone's mouth, you just can't tell they are wearing braces. You have all the benefits of a strong metal frame, so treatment is very effective and with good to excellent outcomes for most patients. Treatment is much more effective than Invisalign - mostly because patients can remove the Invisalign braces.

For adults who are not good candidates for Invisalign, these lingual braces are a good choice. For the orthodontist, the lingual braces are a specialized item and are more difficult to fit. Look for an orthodontists who has lots of experience with them, as they can be tricky to fit and get right. Your orthodontist will have to undergo special training to use them properly, and not all orthodontists specialize in lingual braces.

Lingual braces are more expensive than standard metal braces. They require more time to fit, and are a speciality item. However, for those requiring 24 months of comprehensive treatment that need an invisible care free solution, they are a great way to go if you can afford the extra cost.
