Root Canals After Veneers

Root Canals are becoming increasingly needed after traditional Porcelain veneers. After paying $20,000 for a brand set of new veneers, many customers are dismayed to find that they need multiple root canals for $1,000 each on teeth that, prior to the veneers, were perfectly fine.

Veneers are used to cover all manner of sins. Often people don't want to have lengthy and perhaps painful orthodontic treatment and have to wear braces for 2 years. In the case where the veneer is acting as a cover up for crooked or misalgined teeth, your dentist will have to shave the teeth down by drilling and grinding it to fit the porcelain veneers.

Once the enamel is ground back, the tooth becomes vulnerable to dental decay. The strong layer of enamel protects the tooth from invasion by the dental bacteria that cause tooth decay. When significant erosion of the underlying enamel takes place, serious tooth decay can occur.

Many patients need to have root canals on their front -teeth post the veneer operation. Removing the root also decreases the pain associated with the veneers, but means that your tooth is now dead and still subject to further decay and root infection.

Root canals are also suggested for sensitivity issues. If a lot of enamel has been removed, the chances of sensitivity occuring are much higher. The only way to stop pain is to take out the root and fill it.
